What finally worked for my Sigmatel C-Major was the Realtek AC'97 XP drivers (I've read bad things about their Vista beta drivers). I uninstalled my existing drivers, and ran the realtek install program in XP SP2 compatibility as administrator. Can't remember where I got the drivers, but they are on the realtek site (didn't use that site though as it's so slow). The install did take a few attempts to work - weird things happened with Vista trying to re-install drivers (old or new I don't know), and the install.
