With a family of six that doesn't order out we needed a large microwave. This microwave worked pretty good for six months. Then one afternoon I put in some burritos and hit start and within 30 seconds it shuts off and spits an error code on the LED of H98. After researching this on the net I find that due to an inefficient inverter design it is common for this to fail and make the magneto fail as well.
I went on-line looking for another Panasconic and found Panasonic microwave at Walmart, for an EXCELLENT price (saved over $50 compared to price I paid for the Sharp unit) and made the purchase. It's a wonderful unit, I love it and would recommend it to anyone interested in this Panasonic model. Good looking unit. Lots of power. Inverter technology does indeed reduce cooking times.

This answer was a pure lie. If I can go out and buy it, there is no way buying it will absolve them of any liability. Unit is less than 3 years old, Mag is covered for 3 years. Plain truth is they do not want to have anything to do with units that are already sold. I have worked on several of their commercial units over the years as well, ALL junk.

A response by email at last from the manager at Panasonic that DK AVS have found nothing wrong with the microwave and nothing more could be done. Interestingly, as the microwave is still with DK AVS. It is now 3 months since my first contact with John Lewis, I called and spoke to customer services who have reinvestigated and escalated the case, I quote” I want to let you know that I have escalated the case with your situation to our Head Office so the Service Centre will send the unit back to you as soon as possible.” This beggar’s belief that I have been without a microwave for 3 months and now they have found nothing wrong (i.e. Uneven cooking) and will return the microwave as soon as possible! Maybe in 12 month’s time!

I hope 'Third time is a charm ' holds true. I liked this particular microwave soooo much that when my first one died after 8 years service I rushed to replace it with this identical model. My first microwave oven was an AMANA RR1j purchased in 1974. IT had a HUGE cavity / oven space as back then manufacturers all TRIED to sell us all on being able to cook a 16 pound TURKEY in the microwave. Last week, our units went to the dump. The glass inserts are going with our instruction booklets with purchase receipts taped inside to Goodwill, in hopes that someone needs one. Our first one at the rental property has lasted for five years, it has been heavily used and it is still working great. The best feature I have found is its large capacity. It has more open space than other ovens in the market. It is so good that one can cook a whole chicken in a pot to perfection in 45 min. It is simple to use but it also has more sophisticated functions some are very useful like the turbo defrost and others are less so but on the whole they all work very well. My husband has found a slight problem with it, when in use this microwave's frequency can interfere with some internet applications, specially those related to radio transmission like Sonos.
So after a whopping six months of regular proper use, all the later model Panasonic with inverter technology have this flaw, it died. To replace the parts is out of the question since it would cost more then the $160 or so I spent on it. So please look elsewhere as the Panasonic may be value priced. The value of having a working microwave for 6months is lost on me The quality of the components that make up this unit is severely lacking. It even says so in the Panasonic repair training manual I found on the internet.
While visiting my family in 2015. I only heat food in it. After about 1 year it started to get somewhat rusty inside and it has progressed to very rusty. I have never had a microwave that turned rusty before It heats fine when I use it but it looks like it belongs in the landfill I am concerned with the rusting. What has happened to my microwave? I don't think I will buy a Panasonic again. Not a good product for the long haul!

My husband is a very handy guy and opened it up and repaired the latch several times, it was bent on the inside due to it being held in place by one screw and very thin metal. Eventually, he bought a replacement part and installed it. It also bent. This may not seem like a bad issue but keep in mind that when the microwave fails to shut (due to the bent latch on the inside) the oven will not start. Not only that, but when the latch fails to shut properly, the interior oven light stays on.

I smelt an acrid, burning chemical smell and saw clouds of smoke pouring out of my kitchen. I had to go through the smoke which irritated my eyes to turn the microwave off. I then had to take it outside. The smoke was coming out from behind the keypad and lower portion of the microwave on the same side was too hot to touch. I immediately emailed Panasonic to report the fault and asked for safety data information in regard to the smoke as the smell, its effect on me and the inability to remove the smell suggested it may be hazardous.

Love the way this one does such a FINE job of thawing frozen foods and the way it has SEVERAL pre-programmed settings for specific foods. It has only been a few weeks but we like this microwave oven. After reading the reviews I decided to buy the 3 year extended warranty for $17.00 so that if it breaks down we don't have to come back and write a nasty review, here. If I had designed it I would have liked the ON button to be in one of the corners and that it be larger than the rest of them. Would also be nice to be able to select 30 seconds as a shortcut. Sure, there are higher priced microwaves that would do what I'd like, but it seems that after all these years, ALL microwaves would be designed to have 'high end' features no matter what the price.
